Alan Watts was from London, studied Buddhism from an early age, was an Episcopal priest and wrote his pivotal book “The Wisdom of Insecurity: A Message for an Age of Anxiety”, prior to moving to san Francisco in 1951. While in San Francisco he taught Buddhism, had a national radio show and became the spiritual spokesperson of the counterculture movement until his passing in 1973.
