ACA Service

Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA)/Dysfunctional Families is a program of recovery for men and women who grew up in dysfunctional homes. ACA provides a safe, nonjudgmental environment that allows people to share their experience of growing up with abuse, neglect and trauma, and provides the tools to heal from the past and live happy, productive lives. ACA is based on the 12 Steps, 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts of Alcoholics Anonymous. Members of ACA do service work as part of their recovery. ACA has a website dedicated to service in ACA where you can submit a request to be of service to a committee or in general.  You can also use the links below to access additional ACA service resources. ACA Service Overview

ACA members donate their time to ACA service because they want to give back to the fellowship that brought them sanity. The fellowship benefits from their service work, and the person doing the service work benefits from doing the service work. The heart of the matter is that the demand for ACA meetings and ACA support is far greater than the number of groups and volunteers we have available to meet the demand. But our members meet that call each day, each week, and each month. We do all we can to make ACA available to the greatest number of people. We give our time because we believe in helping one another.

All active ACA member are links of service, carrying the message of help and hope to adult children of alcoholics and dysfunctional families everywhere. There are many things you can do at the group level to be of service in ACA including but not limited to the following:

  • Bring a friend to a meeting
  • Set-up and break down the meeting
  • Speak at a meeting, share your experience, strength and hope.
  • Welcome newcomers, give them your phone number
  • Say yes to service and grow in ACA.
  • Be Secretary or Chairperson of a Group/Meeting
  • Be a Sponsor in ACA
  • Volunteer in the Intergroup Office

The monthly ACA service teleconference is good place to go to hear what the WSO does every month. The WSO Board meets monthly in an open Teleconference on the Second Saturday at 11:00 to 12:30 Pacific Time. All ACA members are invited to attend the Teleconferences.
