MA Service

Marijuana Anonymous is a program of recovery based on the 12 Steps, 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts of Alcoholics Anonymous. The 12 Steps are the foundation for personal recovery and the 12 Traditions help MA groups sustain their unity and fellowship. The Twelve Concepts of Service in Marijuana Anonymous provide guidance for service in the MA fellowship and for spreading MA’s message world-wide. The Twelve Concepts of Service in Marijuana Anonymous illustrate how MA members can apply the principles of the MA program to the working relationships within MA’s service structure. MA Service Structure

Marijuana Anonymous service is structured in an inverted pyramid featuring three levels of service similar to that of Alcoholics Anonymous. The three levels of service include the meeting/group, which occupies the broad base at the top of the pyramid. The middle level represents service at the district level. The tip of the pyramid consists of Marijuana Anonymous World Services.

General Service Representatives (GSR’s), delegates, trustees, and committee members at all levels of service are the trusted servants of our fellowship. They do not govern and have no authority. Each individual serves at the direction of the fellowships membership, with only a loving God as the ultimate authority. It is vital to the unity of MA that information and service effort flow smoothly between the three levels of the service structure.

New members are encouraged to get involved in service at the group level, Once you have established your foundation at the group level, we encourage you to branch to the next level of service at the district level, than at the Marijuana Anonymous World Services level. Ways you can get involved at the local group level include.

  • Bring a friend to a meeting
  • Set-up and break down the meeting
  • Speak at a meeting, share your experience, strength and hope.
  • Welcome newcomers, give them your phone number
  • Say yes to service and grow in HA.
  • Be Secretary or Chairperson of a Group/Meeting
  • Be a Sponsor in HA
  • Volunteer in the Intergroup Office
  • Volunteer to bring an H&I meeting into a hospital of institution
  • Answer phones to be there for a struggling addict and/or their loved ones

For a complete explanation of MA service, members are encouraged to read the Marijuana Anonymous Service Manual.
